Plagiarism is the "wrongful appropriation" and "purloining and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions," and the representation of them as one's own original work. The idea remains problematic with unclear definitions and unclear rules. The modern concept of plagiarism as immoral and originality as an ideal emerged in Europe only in the 18th century, particularly with the Romantic movement. Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics. It is subject to sanctions like expulsion.Plagiarism is not a crime per se but in academia and industry it is a serious ethical offense, and cases of plagiarism can constitute copyright infringement.

Internet plagiarism is not okay. It takes away credit from the original creator and is literally "kidnapping" another person's rights or works. It can hurt students, writers, teachers, and pretty much anybody involved on either end of the plagiarism case.

  1. While you did include a link to where the first paragraph came from you didn't identify that it was a direct quote. This could be done by shortening the paragraph margins; placing the paragraph in italics, and; identifying that it is a direct quote.
Also be sure to identify where you got the image from. We will be going over this in class in more detail after the break.

  2. Great information! It seems quite convincing and will make me think twice about plagiarism.

  3. This is an excellent way of informing people, like me, that copying and pasting someone else's work is wrong. I also love the picture, what it is saying is so true.
